Naming the Rose : An Interactive Installation Dedicated to the Girls and Women Victims of Juarez

Video: Rose Pieta

The ten minute video was projected above the wax encrusted garments. The video began with a slow camera pan of the 'pure' names of the victims. The names were burned into silky material. Toward the end, the camera moved outward and the names blurred into filmy lace that culminated in the form of a gown gently rocking. As the clothesline garments had been stilled by the layers of wax, the motion of the gown in the video contradicted the marble in Michelangelo's Pieta, a powerful statement of maternal grief and the inspiration for the gown.
